Choosing the Right Plastic Whiskey Glass

What "shatter-resistant" plastic actually means

Tritan-style copolyester
Tritan-style copolyester is fast becoming the material of choice for shatter-resistant glassware that still looks like real glass. It was developed as a BPA-free alternative to polycarbonate, so you get the clarity without the BPA. If you want plastic drinkware that actually passes for glass, this is the material to look for.
Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate is another genuinely shatter-resistant, glass-like plastic, and it's dishwasher safe too. It's a well-proven material that holds up for years in both commercial and household use, and it's a common choice in busy restaurants, hotels, and outdoor or poolside service.
Polypropylene
Polypropylene glasses are more casual than the glass-like finish of Tritan-style copolyester or polycarbonate. They're low-cost, come in a wide range of colours, solid or semi-opaque, and have a softer, slightly rubbery feel, closer to Tupperware or Rubbermaid storage containers than real glassware. They're a popular choice for kids' cups and casual outdoor events.
Acrylic and SAN plastic
Acrylic and SAN (an acrylic blend) are durable, reasonably priced plastics, but they're not in the same league as Tritan-style copolyester, polycarbonate, or polypropylene when it comes to impact resistance. The key difference: acrylic and SAN glasses can crack if dropped on tile or another hard surface, while genuinely shatter-resistant plastics like Tritan-style copolyester and polycarbonate are built to survive that same drop.
